Simplicity Dehumidifier model# SDR204
DANBY PRODUCTS LIMITED ANNOUNCES A VOLUNTARY RECALL OF MODEL SDR204 DEHUMIDIFIER
TORONTO, ON – May 21, 2008 – Danby Products Limited of Guelph, Ontario, announces the voluntary recall in Canada of approximately 19,500 units of model SDR204 dehumidifier. Danby has received four (4) reports of incidents of concern, one of which may include an alleged fire. The internal wiring can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard since the plastic enclosure may not meet the flame test requirements of the appropriate safety standard. No injuries have been reported.
This recall involves Danby Dehumidifier Model SDR204 that was sold at retail under the Simplicity brand. No dehumidifiers of this model number have been shipped to the Canadian marketplace since 2005 and there are no products currently at retail anywhere in Canada.
The model number can be found on the name plate attached to the back of the unit, as per the attached photograph.
The recall includes only those units sold at retail from February 2004 through May 2008.
The affected units were sold in Canada by Beeland Co-op, Borderland Co-op, Canadian Tire Corporation, Dupuis Et Fils, Heritage Co-op, Levasseur Enterprises, Lounsbury, Peterborough Appliance, Plum Coulee Co-op, Red Bargain Barn, Richard R. Meubles, Rona, TruServ.
Consumers who have in their possession a dehumidifier model SDR204 should stop using and unplug the dehumidifier immediately. To arrange for return of the dehumidifier, consumers can contact the toll free number 1-866-571-2172 between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm EST, Monday through Friday.
The Canadian recall is being conducted in cooperation with the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority who will monitor the effectiveness of the recall program.
